United States President John F. Kennedy in 1961 created the Peace Corps with the mission to “promote world peace and friendship.” The Peace Corps has three goals:

Peace Corps Jamaica’s (PCJ) vision is to be
nationally recognized for being responsive to Jamaica’s development needs by:
  • Providing Jamaican communities and organizations with trained men and women,
  • Identifying effective and sustainable solutions,
  • Forging mutually beneficial partnerships and;

  • To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
  • To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
